About Us

Our Community

The Bridge End Outdoor Centre was once the school for the local area.

In 1988 a group of local residents and former pupils setup the original Charity through a voluntary committee, which continues to run and maintain the site today. It is our aim to offer affordable accommodation to groups wishing to experience Shetland's spectacular landscape.

The building itself provides self-catering facilities for parties of up to 26 people while the grounds can accommodate caravans, boats and tents.

The centre has full kitchen and dining facilities along with a comfortable sitting-area. This is a suitable area for lectures, workshops and recreation etc and free Wifi is provided. There is also disabled access toilets and showers as well as a fully equipped laundry and drying room. In the past pupils would each bring a piece of peat for the schoolhouse fire but now we use electric storage heaters in the public areas, supplemented by panel heaters in the dormitories.

We also offer the Building for day hires, perfect for training events, workshops and parties! We also hold our own events throughout the year.

Why not book now and start your outdoor adventure!

Our Islands

The islands of East and West Burra are known for their outstanding scenery and beautiful beaches. We have the benefits of a strong Island community with the convenience of a road bridge to mainland Shetland.

There are many good walks as well as opportunities to spot seals, otters and other bird and wildlife. The coast is rugged and beautiful with views across to the Island of Foula, you may even find a secret cave.

There is a well stocked shop in Hamnavoe and Shetland's main town, Lerwick is only a 20 minute drive away. Within a 15 mile radius there are many amenities and attractions including golf courses, cafes, restaurants, Leisure Centres and more.

A good place to start planning your trip is our Things to Do page where we have begun to collect just some of the many attractions and amenities our islands have to offer.
